When I turned 18 the first thing I did was register to vote and buy 18 lottery tickets. Although my candidate lost that first time I voted I did win $5 from those lottery tickets. Still, going out on Election Day has long been a routine part of my life. . .

. . and we continue to voice ourselves by connecting lines with a black marker or poking ballot holes at stations that feel like you're taking a written driver's test--and we continue to do it, regardless if the technology makes us scratch our heads in a world where we can watch entire films in the palm of one hand and vote for the next "American Idol" megastar merely by text messaging.

According to the U.S. census survey, in the 2004 election, there were 125.5 million votes cast--of those, only 122.3 million were actually counted which left more than 3 million votes uncounted. Let's hope this time 'round we get it right.

So, get out there and vote rain or shine,
Vote even if what you see coming out the door is a very long line,
Vote even if you have to park your car 5 blocks away,
Vote because November 4 is Election Day.
Vote.
